Sleazy, Extreme and Gritty Sequel

I love a sequel that not only ups the ante regarding the original film but decides to be as extreme as possible and really 'go for it'.

In this film theres a new family who move into Amityville. You know that any family that includes Burt Young and Rutanya Alda as members is going to be dysfunctional. And, by Christ, I mean VERY dysfunctional. Any film that deals with incest is going to be special. Theres also a domestic violence subplot which is just as shocking.

Add to that some of the grossest special effects as the teenage son is possessed and transformed into an utter beast of a nightmarish character and you have a great, twisted and truly messed up (in a good way) sequel.

I remember this having one of the most disturbing sleeves of any horror video in my local video stores which instantly made me want to investigate this further.

There is also a scene involving a Sony Walkman which freaked me out so much that it made me question using mine for days after seeing this filth classic.

Don't miss this messed up gem of a movie.

Better then the first movie

I am not a huge fan of the Amityville Horror (1979), it was okay movie but not that scary, as it was made out to be.

This movie starts of with a new family moving in to the house, a father and mother and four kids, two daughters and two sons.

At first everything seem normal, until the strange things start to happen to younger two kids, as the house messed one room up but father dose not believe the kids and then he hits the poor kids, then eldest son, then point a shotgun at is father to make him stop what he doing.

(I have never hated anyone, as much as I hated the father in this movie).

Soon after Sonny the oldest of the sons, start to act a bit at strange and start to feel sick, then while the whole family is out, we see how becomes possessed by the house.

Small spoiler, I liked the scenes, where we see Sonny get possessed by the house,

when we see him screaming in pain, when he stomach he being press down by the unseen evil force, was really good scene, that was scary and really dark

that is one the reason i liked this movie more then first and this is a lot more darker then first movie and the acting was outstanding from everyone

I would have give this movie 10 but I find the ending, a tad boring and disappointing.

so I am going to give this movie a 8 out of 10

Was there really a point to all this?

Certainly the story of the 1974 slaughter on Long Island in the town of Amityville of an entire family was newsworthy, and perhaps even a documentary film. But the way this is presented doesn't really seem to serve a purpose other than to exploit a tragedy and shock rather than give any sort of believable motive outside of what had already been built up in the papers. The actual family is given an entirely new name with Burt Young and Rutanya Alda playing the parents of four children of varying ages, from early elementary up to possibly college age.

Jack Magner doesn't seem to be under 20, while oldest daughter Diane Franklin is obviously high school age. The insinuations of their close relationship is really creepy, making me prefer onscreen siblings who seem to despise each other than what is presented here. It's obvious that this family needs deep spiritual help with abusive father Young completely despicable and mother Alda attempting to be the voice of reason. but moving into this house is the worst choice they could make, and no sooner have they settled in than Magner has a rifle up at his father's head when he catches him beating on the younger siblings.

Granted the conflict is there and the chills of the house are definitely enough to creep you out so this isn't a complete waste of time as a horror film. But to build up to the tragedy is without real dramatic intensity even though it is still horrific. After that, it comes down to priest James Olson doing his best to relieve Magner of the demon inside him, getting the aid of local police official Moses Gunn. It's not a strong story because there are no real surprises out of the stereotypical haunted house horrors and even when a little old lady librarian shows up to give some insight to the properties past, it really isn't developed well enough to make this work beyond the exploitation of a crime that defies earthly understanding.
