Various fighters are invited to a martial arts fighting tournament for $10 million. The tournament is run by Dr. Victor Donovan (Eric Roberts). Four of the contestants include princess Kasumi (Devon Aoki), wrestler Tina Armstrong (Jaime Pressly), thief/assassin Christie Allen (Holly Valance), and Helena Douglas (Sarah Carter). They would find the tournament's terrible reason for being.

This doesn't hide its video game roots. It's concentrating mostly on the girls. It's definitely going for the young male audience. It's a lot of hot girls with limited clothing doing jiggle-fighting. The story, such as it is, is a bit thin. There is the main mystery of what happened to Kasumi's brother in a previous tournament. As for the action, the fighting is rather quick paced and energy driven. The best standout actor is the compelling Jaime Pressly who gives some much needed comedy to the movie. This is not a good movie by any means, but this is relatively entertaining for a movie based on a video game.

If I had to choose, I'd answer no! This movie is based on a console game! The adaptation to a movie should have teenage boys drooling over the DVD (or the theater seats for that matter). And somewhat rightfully so you could say!

But of course, since this is made to be PG-13, you'll not get what you might be looking for. And while for some that might be naked ladies, for me it is the action part! A beat-em up game, that doesn't deliver on it's premise and holds back? Well the action is quite nice ... for a PG-13 movie! Since this movie has no story at all, is not based on a character driven plot, you should at least get the whole action! But unfortunately you won't get it!

Absolutely execrable video game adaptation marks a new low for the genre – and it's probably the only film that makes the likes of STREET FIGHTER and MORTAL KOMBAT look great! In terms of plot, it borrows heavily from those two films in its depiction of multiple fighters showing up to compete in a martial arts tournament to the death. The film centres on a trio of heroines who have been wire-feud up to look skilled as they battle various steroid-enhanced heavies and run around in tiny bikinis. The movie is solely centred on the teenage male viewer, most outrageously in a slow-mo volleyball game designed to capture every wobble.

The female cast are hopeless. Devon Aoki displayed presence in SIN CITY but has none here, while Holly Valance (TAKEN) looks fine but shows little discernible talent. The less said about Jaime Pressly the better. The fourth female lead, Sarah Carter in a more minor role, is actually the best of the lot, although only marginally. The male cast members fare even worse if that's possible, with Eric Roberts as the bad guy (looking mightily embarrassed and sporting an awful wig) and Matthew Marsden (RAMBO) absolutely awful in a supposed comic relief role. Sadder still is seeing genuine martial arts talent like Kane Kosugi and Collin Chou wasted in this mess. Corey Yuen was once a force to be reckoned with in his native Hong Kong but it's no surprise that he hasn't directed again since helming this sorry, crappy CGI-filled excuse for a movie.
